Like Prince Philip was to the Queen, she has become the monarch’s strength and stay. I have covered the royal family for more than 30 years and, since she married our new King, I have got to know Camilla. During the Platinum Jubilee, Queen Elizabeth declared her wish for Camilla to be known as Queen Consort on Charles’s accession.īut it seems she will be known as Queen Camilla following the Coronation after Buckingham Palace used the title for the first time on the official invitation. After initially being cast as the “third person” in Charles and Diana’s marriage, her public image has been transformed. Over time Camilla worked tirelessly, supporting the late Queen and her husband in a role she came to late in life. The culmination of the romance was a marriage between the couple, who wed in a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall on April 9, 2005. The first book, Animal Magnetism, with an equally adorable cover, features a puppy and a heroine who runs an animal shelter. This is a light, funny, steamy read – a guilty pleasure, complete with a kitten, that left me smiling and wanting more.Īnimal Attraction is the second in a series. The secondary characters are all immensely likeable. The animals in the book are wonderful and are a part of the story, from Bones the abandoned kitten, to Gertie the St Bernard, to Peanut the parrot. The veterinary setting enhanced the reading experience for me. It’s your typical romance, with chemistry and attraction sizzling between the two protagonists, and you know from the very first page that they’ll end up together, you just don’t know how they’re going to overcome all the obstacles they face along the way. Animal Attraction is the story of glamorous city girl Jade who runs from a traumatic event in her past and finds herself in a quiet ranching town in Idaho, working for Dell Connelly, the local veterinarian. The injury question, however, is more difficult to answer. But what about those worries about fatigue? Assess.Īnd now? It’s clear the pitch clock has shaved time off the game, creating a livelier playing environment. Those concerns shared space in their minds along with thoughts that they may be thinking too myopically, overly suspicious about something they truly didn’t yet have a solid handle on. The injury bug is going to be coming across the league.’ Get in shape. Personally, I have to look at this as, ‘What’s the worst-case scenario? Yeah, pitchers start dropping. These opening pages, by the way, are also a clue as to how to enjoy the novel. And of course, given the obvious homage to Christie, we have a character nicknamed Agatha. If you’re familiar with the classics of the mystery genre, you will recognise that these nicknames refer to Ellery Queen, John Dickson Carr, and Gaston Leroux. Which is how you get a very meta-sounding opening where Ellery talks about how “mystery fiction is, at its core, a kind of intellectual game” with Carr and Leroux. What I found very interesting about the book was that the seven members of the murder club referred to each other by nicknames. Bored by endless rounds of mahjong, Kawaminami and his new friend, Shimada, decide to investigate the letters. The Decagon House Murders takes place in two locations – one is a deserted island, where seven members of the K- University Mystery Club are camping for a week, and where the murders take place, and the other is on the mainland, where a member of the mystery club who didn’t go on the trip (Kawaminami), receives a threatening letter, alleging that the death of a member of the club was actually a murder. It’s fitting that I read And Then There Were None a few weeks before I read The Decagon House Murders, because the latter pays homage to the former, and it was fun to have echoes of the original story in my head while reading it.
